The Flying V Lodge

Issue No. 1

Old Friends, New Website!

To our many friends, guests and visitors:

While The Flying V remains the same with its old world charm and warmth, we now have a new website!  It's filled with new pictures of the Lodge, inside and out (in our Photo Gallery).  Soon as we can, we'll be adding videos too.  You'll be able to take a video tour of the facilities!

The new website includes some Flying V History and the History of Cambria.  We've added a Calendar of Events page, pages about our Accommodations, hunting information, and lots more.  We hope you like it!

Getting Ready...

Before you know it, The Flying V will be opening for the 2013 season.  As we get it ready for your next stay or big event, have you made your reservations yet?  A great hunting trip or events like a reunion, wedding or a retirement party is all in the planning and preparations.  Let us help!  Call us to let us know what what your needs are, big or small.  We're not satisfied until you're satisfied!

We can always be reached at (307) 746-2096 or you can contact us through our website for reservation inquiries or here for questions and comments.

'Like us' on Facebook!

Just wanted to say we now have an "Official Fan Page" on Facebook for The Flying V.  If you would like to "Like us" on Facebook, now you can.

We're still learning how to use the Fan Page on Facebook, so please be patient while we figure it out.  And if you don't "Like us", that's okay...  We will always like you!

The Flying V's First Newsletter

Welcome to our first newsletter!  We hope you look forward to them to bring you news about The Flying V Lodge, upcoming events, and all things for the hunting season.  We're not planning on sending them out that often - just enough to let you know what's going on or give advance notice of events in a timely manner.

Questions and Answers

Questions are sometimes asked on our Facebook or website that we'll take the time to have a bit of fun and answer them in our Newsletter.  So, here goes!

The first question was asked on Facebook by Jimbo Webb, under a post about our newsletter.

Question:  The Flying V is also the name of a guitar, isn't it?

Answer:  Yes it is!

However, The Flying V Lodge was not named because of it - nor was the guitar named because of The Flying V Lodge.  The history of the Flying V Guitar can be found on Wikipedia.

Rumour has it that to be really good at playing the Flying V Guitar, you need to start at a really young age...

Looks like this little guy is going to do just fine.  A few licks on the guitar and soon he'll start wailing away singing "Rock me to sleep!" - a tune every parent knows.

The original name of The Flying V Lodge was "Cambria Casino Park" after it was built in 1928.  Years later, the building was leased by a local ranch known as The Flying V Ranch to be the center piece of their ranching operation.  Ever since, "The Flying V" part of the name has always been associated with the property.  Visit our Flying V History page on our website to read more - and visit our History of Cambria page for even more details.

However, there is a bit of shared history of The Flying V Lodge and the Flying V guitar...  For years we hosted an annual event known as the Bag Lady Bash and sold many T-shirts depicting crossed Flying V guitars with a motorcycle going through a large centered " V ".  Here's a picture of a T-shirt made for the last & final Bag Lady Bash.

Though the last and final Bag Lady Bash was held in August of 2010, The Flying V Lodge was featured in an online magazine article written by a guest who stayed at The Flying V during the 2004 Bag Lady Bash.  It's a good read and full of great pictures, reprinted with permission on our website.

The End

(Until the next issue...)

PS ~

Do you have a story about yourself while at The Flying V you would like to share?  If you have a funny story or memorable event, tell us about it and we may feature the story in an upcoming issue of our newsletter.  While pictures are not necessary, if you have some to share, they would add to the story.

Just Contact Us on our website to tell the story (or send by mail to our address).  We look forward to hearing your story!
